Wednesday, October 15, 2008Okay, final check
I've going over the proofs of the next novel, and I want to make sure I've got the right names in the acknowledgements for everybody who helped me out on that nitpicking post; you know who you are, I'm sure. So, here's the list:
Naomi, Donalbain, Jane Draycott, Jill Heather Flegg, Ursula L, Jos, Cowboy Diva, Robb, Joolya, Christopher Subich, Hapax, Linda Coleman, Practicallyevil, Wesley Parish, Margaret Yang, Sunlizzard, Lauren, Ecks, Michael Mock, Sheila O'Shea, Alfgifu. If you're not on that list and should be, or if I've spelled your name wrong or used an internet handle when you'd prefer your actual name or vice versa, please either e-mail me at kitwhitfield@hotmail.com or post your objection on the thread here by the end of the week. This is more or less the last call; after this, I won't be able to do much about it, so please let me know quickly if anything's wrong.
Comments:
Can I ask to be "James (Donalbain) Bremner" with the brackets? That way, when you sign my copy, it will be cooler...
Which sort of brings up another question...
Have you ever had to deal with fame? If I get the job I am currently interviewing for, I may well move up to London Town, and one of the strange thoughts I had was how would I react if I saw you while I was buying my cat-repellent. I know it seems odd, but this is something I *honestly* thought about (I have a lot of travelling time and I read blogs on the train!). I came to the conclusion that I would want to say hello, but I would hide the cat-repellent. Basically it comes down to the fact that the internet is wierd! With ordinary famous people I have no relationship with them.. but if I met YOU in the cat-repellent store, I would feel I already know you and that would mess with the fan-famous person relationship.. So.. I suppose the *real* question is; do you have any comments to make on weird obsessive internet fans as opposed to normal fans?
My name is indeed spelled correctly (and thank goodness for that--you should see the way it gets mangled!) I have no objections to being credited for nitpicking. :)
That's me! Although I might be really picky and ask to be Naomi Clark so I can prove to people it's me when I show off my copy, lol.
Well, technically, it's "hapax", not "Hapax" (actually, it should be hApax if I wanted to capitalize the adverb, but bleah) but I don't care that much (you should see how my Real Name gets mangled -- I have a lovely scroll from the State Legislature of Missouri in which they congratulate me on something-or-other, and *all three* of my names are mis-spelled, but I digress)
The thanks are courteous and appreciated, but I'm just looking forward to the book! (today's verification word "hqbzd" -- a mildly interrogative greeting used by the intelligent insect-like alien pTswld)
hapax is fine.
It's Greek for "once", most often found in "hapax legomenon". It's pretty much a bad pun from UseNet days, when we were instructed to type in a "unique user name" and somebody had already taken "unique" and... well, it's one of those things that isn't very funny once you explain it. (today's word verification: "rmfkbn", which is what my daughter says when I clamp my hand over her mouth as she is shouting rude comments at John McCain during the presidential debate)
Squee! I'm getting mentioned in Kit's book!

I only just saw this, as I tend to remember to check your blog only when you mention it on Slacktivist, at which time I catch up on reading. << Home ArchivesJuly 2006 August 2006 September 2006 October 2006 November 2006 December 2006 January 2007 March 2007 May 2007 July 2007 October 2007 December 2007 January 2008 February 2008 March 2008 April 2008 May 2008 June 2008 July 2008 August 2008 September 2008 October 2008 November 2008 December 2008 January 2009 February 2009 March 2009 April 2009 May 2009 July 2009 August 2009 September 2009 October 2009 November 2009 December 2009 January 2010 February 2010 March 2010 April 2010 August 2010 September 2010 November 2010 January 2011 May 2011 June 2011 November 2011 December 2011 January 2012 February 2012 March 2012 April 2012 May 2012 June 2012 July 2012 August 2012 September 2012 October 2012 November 2012 December 2012 January 2013 March 2013 April 2013 May 2013 June 2013 July 2013 August 2013 September 2013 October 2013 March 2014 October 2021 June 2022 October 2024 |
